Biracial Children & Hair

My daughter is 9 years old and
has been asking me for the past
few years to allow her to leave
her hair out. I couldn't because
it looked horrible after 20
minutes of it being down. I tried
every product I could find that
claimed to reduce frizz etc but
none has worked until now.

At first I was skeptical so I did
half her hair to compare side by
side (pic 1) and I noticed the
difference. The next day I really
took my time (pic 2) and it was
wonderful, she wore her hair out
for hours. I am definitely going
to spread the word about your
product (well, i've already started
:-) Thank you for making a part
of my life easier.

This is an example of some of the letters we get, daily. For more, please visit www.mixedchicks.net.

I love my hair when I get out of the shower, but when it dries it gets frizzy. All these years, I have been ironing and blowdrying to make my hair straight. It would be nice letting it go naturally.

Hi Karen, if you email us a picture through the website (www.mixedchicks.net) or email directly to mixedchicks@aol.com, we can advise. For now, shampoo, deep condition, then follow with our leave-in conditioner. Our products can be purchased through our site or through Mariposa Imports in The Netherlands.

Hi, my name is ericka and I am not mixed, I am African-American which in itself I suppose is a mixture of African, Native American, and Caucasian. Anyway, I wear my hair naturally in the summer but I like Kim have had a hard time trying to find products that keep the curls from frizzing. Is is it okay to use your product on my hair if I'm not more than 20% white?

I am 16 years old in high school and I straighten my hair constantly because the "long straight hair look" is in style. The thing is, I love the "out of the shower-look" but ofcourse my hair cannot be wet all day. I am not a fan of having hair that is big and curly. I just want my hair to have a long frizz free look, without it still looking flat...Which one of your products do you recommend?

I am biracial and naturally my hair is curly, but they are very tight frizzy curls, almost like a soft q-tip fro. I've been thinking about letting my hair go natural without a relaxer but i'm scared i won't be able to tame it. Would your products help with my very tight frizzy curls?

I am a biracial female with very thick & coarse hair (most people don't think I'm biracial based on its texture) that is I have been relaxing since I was 12. I have always wanted to wear my hair natural but am afraid to do so. Will your products make my hair manageable enough to stop relaxing it?

If we could see a picture we could advise. So you could email a picture to mixedchicks@aol.com with your question. Remember, Mixed Chicks will tame curls and block frizz, but it is not a relaxer. Some people with hair classified as 4b or 4c may need a heavier product than our leave in. However, people with very course hair still love our shampoo and deep conditioner. And here is a secret: A few of our customers use our leave-in on the ends as a pre-treatment before blowing or ironing.

Is Mixed Chicks safe to use on my 8 month old's hair? She has dry frizzy hair...but no too much of it! LOL!. I just want to start using something to moisturize her hair so it doesn't become a dry frizzy mess as more hair comes in. Is your product safe for babies?

I'm 14 and mixed black and white and have very curly hair. it is really thick. I love my hair and am not into the whole straightening your hair thing and I'm always willing to try something new on my hair. I was just wondering if your products would leave a sticky residue on my hair because a lot of creams I try do and if I used them how long they could keep my hair looking good and frizz free.

Mixed Chicks for little kids? Okay moms, we know many of you want to get your babies' hair under control. And while we don't use a lot of harsh chemicals, our products, like all shampoos and conditioners, they will sting the little ones' eyes. But if you take common sense precaution, our products work great. And our leave-in has no alcohol, so it won't dry the hair. Now, if your child is still in a car seat, the rubbing motion of the head on the back of the seat will cause frizz no matter what you do. If your child can keep their hands out of their hair while it is drying, Mixed Chicks offers softer hair without frizz. As for the infants...maybe do something completely natural like an oil of some sort, then move to Mixed Chicks as they get a bit older. Ask your pediatrician.

Transitioning to naturally curly hair...
Mixed Chicks is a good alternative to chemical straighteners. Our leave-in conditioner will define curls and block frizz. There is no alcohol in our leave-in, so your hair will not dry out. Mixed Chicks will not re-curl relaxed hair, but it will manage it until the straightend sections grow out.

RE: A STICKY RESIDUE -- I had the pleasure of talking to either Kim or Wendi on the phone. One of the reasons Kim and Wendi started the Mixed Chicks company was because many of the "curly hair products" did leave sticky residue. Mixed Chicks will leave your hair soft without the sticky feel that seems to attract a ton of dirt by the end of the day.

My daughter is half Latina and half African (Kenyan), and I have no idea what curls type her hair is! Cupid, Spiral, or Corkscrew? She is 1 year old, and I wash her hair 2x a week with a baby shampoo then immediately use pure shea butter oil (no other indrigents involved) on it. Daily mornings, I spray a detangling conditioner on her hair then put it in ponytails (if I leave her hair, her daycare providers would just mess with it!! then i have to use a wide tooth comb to clean up the mess). My question is, am I doing the right thing? Is there a visual layout of different curl type? thanks.

Here types range from 1 to 4. 1 being stright, 4 being kinky. Within each category, most stylsts and companies divide them from A to C. C, having a tighter curl. Here is a link to a basic visual hair type chart with celbrities as example:

hi, my daughter is multiracial with very very afro hair - tight curls very frizzy and dry. The only way I have learnt to keep it under control is to corn row it myself, which she hates as it hurts. I have never put any chemicals on her hair, nor do I want to, but there is no way I can leave her hair 'out' not even for an hour - it matts up and turns into dreadlocks straight away - though she'd love to have her hair down like her sister who has looser, bigger curls and softer textured hair - any advice would be most welcome, thanks, Eleanor

the best way is to try mixed chicks. if you apply our leave-in to her hair when it is freshly shampooed and still wet, then air dry...the curls will come out defined. it is hard to say without seeing a picture. check out our before and after picts of some of the kids on the site. if you would like to mail us a pict with your question to www.mixedchicks.net, we can advise further.

Dear Wendy & Kim,

I'm in the middle of a transition,my roots are naturally curly my hair shaft is frizzy relaxed hair and same with the ends. i really need your advice about if your probucts will work with my hair texture and if not, could you plz tell me what i should do to get the hair that i want. here is someone with a very simular texture as mine as of now:

http://www.naturallycurly.com/curltalk/showthread.php?t=21443&page=2

(you might need to scroll down a little it's the big picture)...as you can see,the hair shaft is relaxed and the curls at the roots are not moisturized nor defined(as much as i would like)the only differance is my hair shaft is damaged (because of the harsh adult relaxers) and is dry and frizzy with split ends, also my hair is longer.I am growing out my curly hair pretty fast but i need a product(s) that well 1)blend the 2 textures 2)moisturized and define. and i'm really not 100% sure if your products well do that for my hair so that is why i am asking. My mother has tight kinky hair(african) and my dad very flat limp hair (white)so i AM mixed.
here is the hair of my dreams:
http://bp0.blogger.com/_aPl4tm2lJaM/R5gduqtMWWI/AAAAAAAAAYo/_RBk8F5ldQE/s1600-h/Long+Curly+Hair.jpg

it's the perfect volume lovely denfined and soooooooooooooo pretty that it makes me want 2 cry! olala!! but it does not have to be like this exactlly but somwhere in that range of moisture and definition would be very very nice! :)

thanks for your time! PLEASE O please reply!!

I think we can get you to the look you want. We suggest trying our three step process, and for you, since you have thick hair, let the deep sit a few minutes, and really comb the tangles out during that process. Comb from the bottom sections, then work your way up toward the roots. Don't try to comb everything out in one stroke. After the deep, section your hair in five sections, work the leave in through, then twist while wet and use a clip to hold your hair while it is drying. After an hour or two let the clips out then continue the air dry. If your hair gets crunch, it means you used too much, so pull curls apart with your fingers. Good luck. If you want a sample, visit the site and write us.
